The Default: ACH Auto-Debit
OppLoans structures every bad credit loan around ACH auto-debit from a primary checking account. This is the default payment method and, in most states, a condition of approval.
Payments are pulled bi-weekly on your payday, timed to arrive within 24 hours of your direct deposit. There is no fee for ACH payments, and they process automatically without action required from you.
Alternative: Debit Card Payments
You can make one-time payments via debit card through the OppLoans customer portal. This is useful if you want to make an extra payment mid-cycle without changing your autopay schedule.
Debit card payments post the same day but do not stop your scheduled ACH withdrawal — you must contact customer service to pause an upcoming ACH pull if you've already covered that payment by card.
Rare Option: Mail-In Check
OppLoans does accept mailed personal or cashier's checks in some states, but this option is discouraged and requires manual coordination with customer service. Processing takes 5-7 business days after receipt, which can result in unintentional late fees.
If you must pay by check, contact customer service before mailing and get a mailing address and confirmation number in writing.
How to Change Your Payment Schedule
You can request to shift your ACH pull date once per loan, typically to align with a new pay schedule. To do this, call customer service at least 5 business days before your next scheduled withdrawal.
OppLoans generally accommodates a shift of 3-7 days without issue. Longer shifts (2+ weeks) may require re-signing your ACH authorization.
Overdraft Warning
The biggest risk of ACH auto-debit is the overdraft fee your bank may charge if your account balance falls short of the scheduled withdrawal. Overdraft fees at major U.S. banks range from $10-$35 per occurrence.
To protect yourself: (1) enable low-balance alerts on your checking account, (2) keep a $200-300 buffer above your OppLoans payment amount, (3) call OppLoans to reschedule the withdrawal at least 3 business days in advance if you anticipate a short balance.
Bottom Line
ACH auto-debit is fast, free, and reliable if managed correctly — but overdraft fees can quickly turn a manageable loan into an expensive one. Set up bank alerts, keep a buffer, and always communicate with OppLoans if your financial situation changes.
